About Thread Fix
Thread Fix offers the professional, mobile, thread repair service, drilling out broken bolts and studs etc. We travel to you covering Dorset, Devon and Somerset repairing your threaded component in-situ.
Our Expertise
We drill out broken bolts and where required fit wire thread inserts to restore a thread back to original size. We use V Coil, Recoil and Helicoil inserts which we carry in stock. We have helicoil taps in BSW,BSF, UNC, UNF, Metric Coarse, Metric Fine and BSP, so if you have an unusual size thread we can usually provide a fix.
Thread Repairs successfully completed
This proud owner of a very original Triumph Stag called for help with some sheared inlet manifold bolts. I was able to drill out the bolts and Helicoil the 5/16 UNC threads in the cylinder heads. At the customers request I also Helicoiled the remaining threads to save problems with reassembly.
This would have been very straight forward apart from all the work was carried out free hand and had to be square.
Access was limited from under the car on a ramp, the repair was complete in one hour saving hundreds of pounds in dismantling time.
One of those moments for a commercial garage, when doing a cambelt on a Mazda engine the M10 x1.25 thread in the cylinder head for the tensioner stripped.
My repair including this special drill required no further stripping down, saving between 2 - 10 hours labour.
Note the masking tape, preventing any metal swarf from damaging the engine.

Most times we can fix a thread, even if someone has already tried, we always advise people to leave the broken part alone and call us. It is in these situations that we are sometimes referred to as a thread doctor !

I have tried to drill out my bolt and made an oval hole

This is when we will probably have to use a wire thread insert for example V Coil®, Heli-Coil® or Recoil®. We will drill the hole oversize and recover the thread back to the original size with an insert.

How much will it cost
A
We only charge for the hours we work at £50 per hour,
travelling time is charged if greater than 30mins.

Are there threads you can’t fix
A
Yes some very specialist left hand threads and we do not remove broken easy outs or taps etc made from carbon steel.
